Man City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak promises more signings after sensational £51m transfer for Erling Haaland

MANCHESTER CITY have vowed more signings will follow after buying the “best No.9 in the world”.

The Premier League champion moved quickly to tie a £51.4million move for Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland, 21, on a five-year deal earlier this month.

And Argentina international Julian Alvarez, 22, will also join from River Plate in July.

But Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has vowed that City is not done yet.

Khaldoon said: “In Haaland we have arguably the best No. 9 in the world at the right age. If you look to the next 10-15 years, we’ve invested in this forward for the future.

“He’s a very, very unique striker that the whole world has been looking at.

“His record is phenomenal. Every great team in the world wanted Haaland to join them.

“He’s one of the most exciting – if not the most exciting – strikers in the world.

“Haaland made a very wise decision to join Man City. A great decision for us.

“And I think we’ve found one of the most talented young strikers in South America in Alvarez.

“But I can confirm that more players will come in.

“We are looking for reinforcements in the areas where we need reinforcements.”

City are looking for a new central midfielder to replace skipper Fernandinho, who is leaving after nine years.

They’ve ruled out moves for West Ham’s Declan Rice and Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, but Leeds’ Kalvin Phillips is seen as interesting.

Manager Pep Guardiola would also like a new full-back and City are among several clubs overseeing Brighton’s Marc Cucurella.

Khaldoon added: “We’ve already made two very important additions, but I’m expecting a few more.

“We will try to go as fast as possible, but that depends on the market.

“If I had my way, they’d all be done by July 1st.”

Khaldoon believes City need to strengthen their squad to ensure they keep closest rivals Liverpool at bay.

And he revealed they had started planning for next season just hours after winning their last Premier League title nine days ago.

He said: “We are honored to see two competitors play at the level that we have seen over the last few years and constantly push each other.

“We celebrated on Sunday night after winning the title.

“But within hours the conversation turned to next season and how we can continue to improve.

“As with any rivalry, like the one we had with Liverpool, we made each other better.

“We are the benchmark for global football.”

Haaland, who serves with Norway in the Nations League, admitted he is relieved his club future is finally settled.

He said: “It wasn’t easy. I’ve been doing my best for Dortmund for two and a half years.

“If I can boast a bit, if there’s something I’m very good at, then my focus is on football and not on things that I shouldn’t be concentrating on. Exclude everything.”
