MANCHESTER CITY and Liverpool are reportedly in the race to sign Leroy Sane.

Last week it was reported that City were considering a surprise move to sign their former star.

This meant they were ready to go toe-to-toe with the Reds after his form at Bayern Munich had soared this season.

However, new reports from Spain show that La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are also in the running.

According to Sport, Bayern could look to cash in on Sane in the summer as his contract expires in 2025.

The report shows that there was no agreement between the German and his club about a contract extension.

It adds that 27-year-old Sane has not yet closed the door on a move to Spain.

And that has put Xavi and Carlo Ancelotti’s teams on alert.

Reigning Spanish champions Barcelona are considering a move, with former Leeds winger Raphinha linked with a move away from the Nou Camp.

Meanwhile, Champions League specialists Madrid are looking to improve their attacking depth after Vinicius Jr was ruled out for two-and-a-half months after being injured on international duty against Brazil last week.

During the contract negotiation, Sane said he “hadn’t thought about it yet.”

He added: “The club wants to have discussions but at the moment I want to focus on this season.”

Sane has scored nine goals and provided seven assists in all competitions for Bayern this season.

The winger previously scored 25 goals and 32 assists in the Premier League for City before leaving the club in 2020.

At the weekend he contributed an assist for Germany in their 3-2 defeat against Turkey.
