NAPLES

A man was arrested on suspicion of attempting to rob a guest room at a Naples hotel on Tuesday.

At around 3:15 p.m., according to an arrest report from the Naples Police Department, officers arrived at the Naples Hyatt House at 1345 5th Ave. S. after reports of an unidentified man trying to break into the living room through the balcony.

The hotel manager told officers the suspect had dived into the bushes near 5 South Avenue before officers arrived after the manager spotted him on the balcony of a room that wasn’t his. After searching, officers found the suspect on the sidewalk next to the Hyatt property, parallel to 5 South Avenue, lying on his back in an attempt to conceal himself from hotel management and staff.

Officers asked Christopher Cabrera, 37, a Naples man, what he was doing on the property and Cabrera said he was a firefighter who needed to check his phone urgently in the pool area. He then said he was being pardoned for robbing a Wells Fargo bank, continuing to make pointless claims about things like he needed to find a note addressed to him at the bottom of his phone. on fire. The NPD dispatch confirms Cabrera’s conditional release for a robbery.

One guest recounted that she saw Cabrera jump onto the balcony of a room. When she asked why he was there, he insisted it was his room, smiled sheepishly as he looked down at the ground, then said he was “doing military work” before jumping off to the nearest other balcony. .

Cabrera is being held at the Collier County Jail and faces charges of unarmed burglary of an uninhabited residence and breach of parole.
