Police said the accident happened just before noon on Center Avenue.
As soon as the cars were stopped, police said Daquawn Crosby got out and hit the driver of the other car on the head. The victim fell backwards and became unconscious.
“He punched him straight in the face, straight in the face. You could see the blood around his teeth,” said Jennifer Callahan, who lives nearby.

Crosby ran away, but police caught him near the corner of Wylie Avenue and Devilliers Street. He was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
“This violence has to stop. In the event of an accident, people are allowed to get out. That’s what you’re supposed to do, exchange information. But attacking someone, especially an elderly citizen, punching them in the face — the violence in this city has to stop,” Callahan said.
