According to the Associated Press, Brooks is just one of 22 women he is alleged to have murdered.

Chermirmir first appeared in court in April when he was found guilty of the murder of Lu Thi Harris, 81, and sentenced to life in prison without parole.

If convicted of the murder of Brooks, who was found dead at her Dallas home in January 2018, he will reportedly receive the same sentence.

Originally, Brooks’ death was allegedly attributed to natural causes.

But the cause was changed to murder after Chermirmir was linked to a similar death via a stolen jewelry box.

Two months after Brooks’ death, Chermirmir was arrested after assaulting and attempting to suffocate Mary Annis Bartel, 91.

A day after the attack, Chermirmir was confronted by the police.

He reportedly had jewelry and cash with him, and also allegedly discarded a red jewelry box that contained documents connected to Harris.

After police traced the documents to Harris’ home, they found her dead.

After his arrest, police revealed that investigators began reviewing cases of about 750 unattended deaths of elderly women for possible links to Chermirmir, the Associated Press reported.

He has been linked to 22 since 2018.

As of June, the 49-year-old also faces four more murder charges in the death of Marilyn Bixler, 90; Diane Delahunty, 79; Helen Lee, 82; and Mamie Miya, 93. All four women were killed in 2017, according to NBC News.

In a taped interview with police, Chermirmir denied killing anyone and claimed he made money buying and selling jewelry, according to the Associated Press.

He reportedly claimed the jewelry he was wearing at the time of his arrest had been bought by a man he had met just 20 minutes earlier.

However, during the April trial, a Dallas detective reportedly testified that Chermirmir was “fighting over the details of who he had met, how much he had paid for the jewelry box.”

Prosecutors also presented evidence that Chermirmir attempted to sell Bartel and Brooks jewelry online.

Chermirmir has repeatedly claimed he is innocent, telling The Dallas Morning News in March: “I am not a murderer.”

“I’m not at all what they say I am,” he added. “I’m a very innocent person. I wasn’t brought up (raised) like that. I grew up in a good family. I haven’t had any problems my whole life.”
