On Monday, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced it had spotted the plane about 190 feet below the surface in Puget Sound near Whidbey Island.

Investigators searched the 1.75 by 0.75 mile area where witnesses said the plane crashed.

According to spokeswoman Jennifer Gabris, the NTSB used sonar technology to detect a “large section” near the plane’s length and width.

It took a little over a week to locate the wreck due to the depth and movement of the water, the Seattle Times reported.

The NTSB will use a remotely operated vehicle to recover the aircraft due to the depth and currents of three to five knots.

Megan Hilty – best known for her role on NBC’s musical drama Smash – lost three family members in the plane crash.

Lauren Hilty, Megan’s pregnant sister, was on the flight, along with her husband Ross Mickel and their daughter Remy, reports King 5.

The plane was flying from Friday Harbor in the San Juan Islands to Renton Municipal Airport when it crashed.

Rick Rasmussen, a witness, said, “It sounded like dynamite went off.”

Others described the seaplane diving into the water, said Lieutenant Jon Gabelein of South Whidbey Fire.

Only one body was discovered by a good Samaritan on Sunday evening, but the passenger could not be identified.

Two planes were deployed late Sunday to search for the missing passengers and air patrol, but the remaining nine passengers were not found.

A search for the bodies was suspended Monday after traveling more than 2,100 square seconds.

The Coast Guard revealed the flight record, which included pilot Jason Winters and passengers Patricia Hicks, Sandra Williams, Lauren Hilty, Remy Mickel, Ross Mickel, Luke Ludwig, Rebecca Ludwig, Joanne Mera and Gabrielle Hanna.

Remy Mickel was the only child on the plane, according to the Coast Guard.

“UNIMAGEABLE MOURNING”

“We are deeply saddened and beyond devastated by the loss of our beloved Ross Mickel, Lauren Hilty, Remy and their unborn boy Luca,” Remy’s family told King 5.

“Our collective grief is unimaginable. They were a bright and shining light in the lives of everyone who knew them. Although her time with us was too short, we will carry on her legacy.”

The statement continued, “The tremendous abundance and support we have received from our friends, family and the public has been overwhelming.
