Mafia bosses give top UEFA referees £25,000 online to try to fix footie matches

MAFIA bosses are targeting UEFA’s top referees with cybercriminals to try to fix tough matches.
According to a leaked memo in The Sun.
Criminals are using phishing techniques refined during the pandemic to lure participants into attacking Europe.
The memo, sent to the FA and other regulators, warns: “Corrupt organizations have used unprecedented cybercrime tactics in reported corruption messages, which may indicate bloodshed in tactics from more sophisticated groups or even the potential to collaborate with such groups. ”
It talks about “an incident in which a match fixer is suspected of attempting to recruit referees to manipulate matches via social media”.
This evolution may have been hastened by the Covid lockdown, in which cybercriminals both diversified and increased their criminal activities, it reads:
The memo adds: “We assess the likely chapters will continue to attempt to contact players, referees and other officials through social media and the use of complex messages. more complex, including personalized content and manipulation techniques.”
The messages are understood to have originated with Asian crime gangs and were sent in English – but British drivers are not thought to be the target.
