Madison Cawthorn slams ‘crass’ video of him naked in bed as a political ‘hit’ after nude footage leaked on Twitter

MADISON Cawthorn has issued a Twitter statement addressing a “blatantly” leaked nude video reportedly released by an opposition group fighting him.
The video, which surfaced on social media Wednesday night, appears to show Cawthorn, 26, “acting stupid,” as he described in a tweet, ahead of the May 17 North Carolina primary.

“A new hit just fell on me,” Cawthorn wrote. “Years ago, I was in this video with a friend that was rad and I was trying to be funny.
“We acted stupid and made jokes. That’s it. I am NOT retiring.
“I told you there would be a drip-drip campaign. Blackmail won’t win. We will.”
The Charlotte Observer and CNN reported that an opposition group first posted the video on their website before the clip surfaced on social media.

The Sun was unable to independently verify the video and reached out to Cawthorn’s rep for comment on Wednesday.
The news comes after the congressman addressed a number of current controversies in an Instagram video.
In the caption, he wrote: “Every political adviser tells me to just weather the storm.
“Not worrying about responding to the news because I have ‘such a big head start’ and ‘because you’re the incumbent,’ but I was elected precisely because I’m a fighter.”
It comes after photos of the congressman wearing a lace top and bra, taken during a cruise ship game “long before” he ran for congress, were released.
The North Carolina GOP representative recently made headlines when a loaded handgun was found in his pocket at a security checkpoint at Charlotte Airport.
In March, Cawthorn’s interview on the Warrior Poet Society podcast also caused controversy when he made claims of “sexual perversion” in Washington, DC.
He claimed DC lawmakers invited him to orgies and did drugs in front of him, alleging that House Minority Chairman Kevin McCarthy noted at the time that “a lot of members were upset.”
“I’ve just told him he’s lost my trust, he needs to earn it back and I’ve spelled out everything I think is indecent. And you can’t just say, ‘You can’t do that again,'” McCarthy told Axios.
TWITTER STATEMENT
Cawthorn posted a lengthy Twitter statement on the matter.
It said: “Corruption and unethical activities exist in Washington. It’s an undeniable fact. If you don’t believe that, you haven’t seen the swamp.”
“My comments on a recent podcast appearance calling for corruption were used by the Left and the media to belittle my fellow Republicans and falsely imply their involvement in illegal activities.”
The MP, who was elected to Congress in 2020 at the age of 25, said he spent several days considering how to respond to the controversy surrounding his claims.
“Compromising activity occurs because other people control you when they can put you in compromising positions,” his statement continued.
“It’s all about power, but my colleagues and I are fighting this corruption.”
“Western North Carolina, you sent me to Washington to change the culture. If you want Washington to operate unaccountably, send someone else.
“If you want someone to melt down the entire DC swamp because I’m calling corruption – send me back.”

“The left and the media want to use my words to split the GOP. They fear the Republicans will take back the House and see Leader McCarthy becoming Speaker McCarthy. Your efforts to divide us will fail.”
“I will not back down from the mob, and I will not let them win. I will continue to fight for many years to come.”
