Madison Brooks’ mother breaks her silence on the “guardian angels” who tried to rescue a stranded LSU student

THE mother of a student who died after an alleged rape has vowed two ‘guardian angels’ who helped her daughter.
Madison Brooks, 19, was fatally hit by a car in January while being parked on the side of the road in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, after a night of drinking.
The Louisiana State University student is said to have been raped in a car. After her death, four suspects were charged with sex crimes.
After Brooks was hit by a truck, two fellow LSU students who saw the accident stopped to help.
Beau Adams, 21, was walking home from work with his girlfriend Kathryn Devillier, 21.
They initially assumed that the driver had hit a deer, but then quickly realized that it was a person.

“I’ve been trying to stay calm in the moment and help in any way I can,” Adams said FoxNews.
He began CPR while Devillier fetched Brooks’ belongings from across the freeway.
Brooks died in hospital, but her mother, Ashley Baustert, said the students’ actions kept Brooks alive long enough to say goodbye to her family and have her organs donated.
Baustert called the couple “guardian angels”.
“They were put there by the grace of God for a reason,” she said.
“I really believe that because no one else has stopped and done what they did.”
Adams and Devillier got matching angel wing tattoos in honor of Brooks.
Students still pass by the spot where she was struck every day, but that’s not the only reason death caught her close to home.
Having lost her own mother in a car accident, Devillier understood what Baustert and the rest of Brooks’ family were going through.
She and Adams found out which hospital Brooks was taken to and stayed there until 6 a.m. when an officer came and gave them a summary of the incident.
“I wanted to at least let Madison’s mom know she wasn’t in pain. She didn’t respond,” Devillier said.
The couple stayed in touch with Baustert, but also struggled with their own trauma from the incident.
“When we got back in the car I freaked out,” said Devillier.
“I lost it.”
Now both students are in therapy.
“I wish we could have done more at the moment, and [I] “Think about whether we could have done more,” Adams said.
Four people were arrested after Brooks’ death.
Casen Carver, 18, and Desmond Carter, 17, were both charged with third-degree and first-degree rape.
Carter is charged as an adult despite his age.
Everett Lee, 28, was charged with third-degree rape as the master rapist, while 18-year-old Kaivon Washington faces third-degree rape charges.
They are currently awaiting charges.
The suspects’ lawyers have maintained that their clients are innocent.
Joe Long, an attorney for Carver, claimed the sex was consensual.

“The prosecutor has seen fit to pursue charges that could land him in prison for the rest of his life,” the attorney said WWL.
“Facts don’t matter when the mafia wants their pound of flesh.”
