Tuesday, CBS2’s Christina fans got a sneak peek at some of the floats.
Six new floats were built at Macy’s parade ground. They are always pushing the envelope to try to make the parade bigger, flashier and better.
This year’s new floats include “The Birds in the Stream Together” by Peacock, “Celebration Gator” by the Louisiana Tourist Office, “Colossal Wave of Wonder” by Kalahari Resorts and Conventions, “Magic Meets the Sea” ” by Disney Cruise Line, and “North Pole” by Tiptoe.
But a special float caught Fan’s eye. It was “Gravy Pirates” by Heinz. That’s because the four-piece boat is actually a new parade element called the “Floalloonicle”. As the name suggests, it’s part buoy, part hot air balloon and part vehicle.
“Ninety-five parades. One hundred in our sights. We really think this year, let’s bring it all back. The fans are back. The audience is back. All participants – clowns. We really wanted the fullness of the parade that we all know and love, and that’s what we’re going to give the country as a whole,” said Macy’s creative director Rick Pomer.
There are a total of 28 buoys this year. Once final inspection is complete, they will be broken down, boxed and ready to be reassembled on parade day.
