Modric, 37, may have played his last World Cup game and was comforted by former Real Madrid team-mate Angel Di Maria after the game.

The midfielder has received plenty of praise for his performances throughout the tournament but he couldn’t help Croatia repeat their 2018 success of reaching the final.
