Letby, originally from Hereford, was found guilty of the murder of seven babies and the attempted murder of seven others at the Countess of Chester Hospital in Cheshire last month.

She was given 14 life sentences for her crimes and was told she would die behind bars.

She is expected to appeal her conviction on September 25.

Letby refused to appear in court when the judge announced his sentence, prompting the families’ anger.

There were tears in court as the surviving relatives of their victims read out powerful statements about the impact on the victim.

The Crown Prosecution Service ran up a bill of £2,504,245 to send her to prison.

Responding to a Freedom of Information request, the CPS said: “The figure includes consultancy, expert and presentation fees.”

She is now in Low Newton Prison in County Durham, where child murderer Rose West was previously held and triple murderer Joanna Dennehy is imprisoned.

Sun Online has contacted Cheshire Police for comment.
