Louis van Gaal reveals he spotted his players naked while FaceTiming the 11 stars he left out of the 2022 World Cup squad

HOLLAND boss Louis van Gaal has revealed he caught some of his players “naked” on FaceTime telling them they didn’t make his World Cup squad.

The Netherlands head coach, 71, announced his 26-man squad for Qatar on Friday.

Before confirming the squad, Van Gaal told each of the 11 players he hadn’t included that they would not make the final selection.

But things didn’t exactly go to plan as the ex-Manchester United boss claimed some of his stars weren’t dressed yet.

In his announcement press conference, he said: “It’s not easy to drop someone.

“I spent 1 hour and 45 minutes this morning Facetime the 11 players. It was’nt easy.

“I also took into account the time difference with the English players. I saw some naked players because they were still in bed.”

Man Utd midfielder Donny van de Beek and Newcastle centre-back Sven Botman were among the players left out of the final squad.

During the press, Van Gaal was also questioned about his wife, who said he was superstitious.

To which he replied, rather bizarrely, “No. I got orange panties from her. Do you really think I’ll wear those orange pants every day?

“I only do it on match days. That’s why I wear it. Out of respect for my sweet wife.”

Van Gaal has plenty of quality to choose from in their final squad, including players like Virgil van Dijk, Matthijs de Ligt, Frenkie de Jong, Cody Gakpo and Memphis Depay.

And he’s not shying away from Holland’s chances of winning the tournament – despite failing to qualify in 2018.

He said: “We have a great chance to win the World Cup.

“Not many managers dare say that, but I’m here to tell you.”

During his time at Bayern Munich, Van Gaal once dropped his pants in front of his players to show his absolute authority.

Italy striker Luca Toni revealed: “The coach wanted to make it clear to us that he can drop any player.

“He didn’t care because, as he said, he had the balls.

“He literally demonstrated that by dropping his pants. I’ve never experienced anything like this, it was totally crazy.

“Luckily I didn’t see much because I wasn’t in the front row.”
