Lotus band member Chuck Morris & son have been missing for a week after disappearing on a spring break trip when compelling evidence was found

A MUSICIAN and his son are now believed dead after going missing while kayaking last week.

Chuck Morris, the percussionist for the Colorado jam band Lotus, never returned from a wilderness trip in Arkansas with his son Charley.

Investigators no longer expect to find the two missing alive, Lotus said in an Instagram post on Tuesday.

“We were all hoping for a miracle, but by this point the search for Chuck and Charley has bounced back,” the band said.

“With the help of the K9 team, there is a likely location on the lake, but logistical challenges such as temperature, weather and depth have prevented a salvage so far.”

The update came after police confirmed they had found the duo’s kayaks near Beaver Lake last week, 9News reported. They also recovered a jacket that belonged to one of the men.

Lotus has a career spanning more than two decades. They are known for infusing electronic elements into the jam band genre, a style of rock music characterized by improvisation.

The band formed in 1998 at Goshen College in Indiana.

Though the group’s members are now split between Denver and Philadelphia, their fan base is particularly strong in Colorado.

In 2021, Lotus played the first show of the season at Colorado’s legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater.

The group had just finished a month of touring before Chuck disappeared.

They should be back on the road in a few weeks.

Despite the tragic news, they still plan to tour to honor Chuck’s memory.

“While we deeply mourn, we plan to celebrate the lives of Chuck and Charley, our memories with them and what they meant to so many people,” the band said in a statement.

Lotus encouraged fans to donate to the GoFundMe campaign, which was set up to help Chuck and Charley’s family.

It has already reached more than half of its fundraising goal of $150,000.

“Please know how grateful our family is for all of the support,” Chuck’s wife, Jenny Thompson, said in an Instagram post on the band’s account Monday.

“Please continue to keep my dear husband and son in your hearts and prayers.”

Many Lotus fans shared their tribute to father and son on Twitter.

“Rest in peace lining and Charley Morris,” one called. “My heart goes out to their families, friends and all of Lotus at this incredibly heartbreaking time.”

Organizers of the Summer Camp Festival, an annual event in Ohio that focuses on jam bands, also posted a tribute.

“We were heartbroken to hear this news and desperately wish our dear friends at Lotus a positive outcome,” they said.
