Lottery warning as $65,000 jackpot goes unclaimed with winner having just two days before the prize is gone

A yet-to-be-announced Florida lottery winner has yet to claim his prize with the deadline just days away.

Shell Food Mart is located at 1924 SW Gatlin Blvd. in Port St. Lucie, sold the winning FANTASY 5 Quick Pick ticket.

Florida Lottery winnings must be claimed within 180 days of the applicable drawing date, in this case May 26, 2023.

If the winner chooses to claim their $65,000 prize, they must do so before Wednesday.

The ticket can be validated at any Florida Lottery retailer, but the FANTASY 5 grand prize must be claimed at a Florida Lottery district office.

It is not uncommon for lottery winners to receive a rejection shortly before their ticket expires.

Every year, billions of dollars in lottery winnings remain unused.

A lottery player in Ohio purchased a $4 million Mega Millions winning ticket and did not claim it before its expiration date.

Likewise, lottery officials in Iowa were concerned when a $2 million Powerball prize went unclaimed.

Lottery expert Brett Jacobson says many second-prize ticket holders often don’t realize they’ve won.

Secondary prizes are awarded for tickets that contain only a few, but not all, jackpot numbers.

Jacobson noted that in 2015, there were 115 $1 million prizes that went unclaimed.
