MIDLAND, Texas (Nexstar) – The project began this Monday with construction of all four i-20 entrances and exits near Midkiff Road.

The I-20 entrance and exit ramps leading to Midkiff will be closed to allow contractors to begin construction of the bypass before the overpass is demolished.

TxDOT is rebuilding the I-20 interchange at Midkiff, which will affect traffic patterns over the next several weeks. The drivers we spoke to said they weren’t expecting these changes.

Local driver Jamal Young said: “It may take another 5 to 10 minutes on my daily route to get to work.

One driver from the suburbs shared that he comes to Midland for work and that these new transport patterns will make it harder for him to get to his job site.

“It’s gotten worse, and you have a lot of people who don’t know how to drive,” said Gino Marquez.

TxDot says that the Midkiff Road project is expected to be completed by the winter of 2023.
