BLACKBURN is set to win the race for Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg – by betting on how much he plays.
Rovers boss Jon Dahl Tomasson is so confident the Dutchman, 20, would be a key man if he went on loan that he is ahead of Burnley and Bournemouth.
Anfield bosses are desperate for Van den Berg to move to the Championship to gain more experience – but they are demanding hefty penalty clauses if he doesn’t play enough.
The Reds signed the 20-year-old from Dutch minnows PEC Zwolle in 2019.
He was Reds boss Jurgen Klopp’s first signing this summer after the Anfield side thwarted interest from Bayern Munich, PSV and Ajax.
But Den Berg has barely seen Merseyside and has only played four times since.
Due to his lack of playing time at Liverpool, he has been loaned out to Preston North End for the last 18 months.
During his time at Preston, Denberg played 66 games and contributed two goals and one assist.
However, he is unlikely to have broken into Liverpool’s first-team this season despite the club’s mounting injury concerns.
The Reds are currently without defensive duo Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate.

Matip is struggling with a groin injury while Konate is nursing a broken knee.
It’s the last thing the Reds need going into action against Crystal Palace on Monday night after narrowly managing a 2-2 draw with Fulham in last weekend’s season opener.
