The Republican National Committee condemned the Capitol riots through a press release at 7.54 pm. Then around 8pm, the Senate was called back to session by Vice President Mike Pence.
“Today is a dark day in the history of the United States Capitol… Get back to work,” Pence said.
Around 9 pm, House was called back to session by Nancy Pelosi.
“We always knew this was going to happen overnight, and we’re going to stay as long as we have time,” Pelosi said. “Our purpose will be fulfilled.”
The House and Senate continued their joint session around 11:30 p.m above January 6, 2021.
Finally, at 3:42 am above January 7, 2021, Pence said, “The publication of the voting status of the president of the Senate shall be deemed a complete statement of the persons elected as president and vice president of the United States.”
Later, President Joe Biden was officially confirmed to have won the election and declared the 46th President of the United States.
