The first international tournament of the crowded 2022 is underway – and we’ve now made it to the knockout stages.
Twice delayed, the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon kicks off on 9 January with the hosts coming in from behind to beat Burkina Faso.

When is AFCON 2022?
- Going on for more than a month, the tournament opened with the match Cameroon vs Burkina Faso on Sunday, January 9th.
- The competition follows a pattern familiar to many fans, with the group stages following a knockout format.
- The final will be held on Sunday, February 6 in Olembe.
- The start times for the group stages will be 1pm, 4pm and 7pm GMT.
How can I watch on TV and go live?
All matches of AFCON 2022 will be broadcast live on Sports sky in the UK.
And ten matches will be shown for free on the BBC, including two quarter-finals, both semi-finals and the final on 6 February.
