Lionel Messi’s former Barcelona and Argentina coach – who was born in the same city – ‘talking about becoming Inter Miami coach’

Former LIONEL MESSI manager Gerardo “Tata” Martino is reportedly in talks to acquire Inter Miami.

This comes as Messi confirmed he would join the MLS team on a free transfer this summer.

Messi, 35, had held talks with Barcelona and Saudi Arabia before agreeing a blockbuster deal with David Beckham’s Inter Miami.

And the superstar could be accompanied to the sunshine state by Martino, according to journalists Ariel Senosiain.

Messi is a big fan of Martino, the couple played together at Barcelona and Argentina.

They’re even from the same Argentinian city, Rosario, and Messi would probably be delighted if the 60-year-old joined him in Miami.

Martino narrowly missed out on winning LaLiga in his only season at Barca in 2013/14.

He and Messi were also close to trophies with Argentina in 2016 when they lost the Copa America final to Chile on penalties.

Nonetheless, Messi still holds his ex-boss in high esteem and could look forward to working with him again.

He said: “I like Tata Martino.”

“He’s a great coach and he showed that in the Clausura with what he did for the team, how it ended and how he did it.”

“He makes sure his teams play well and we all respect him.”
