But he has decided to leave the club when his contract expires, clinching a lucrative deal with MLS club Inter Miami.

Messi, 35, had multiple options on the table including from Barca and clubs in Saudi Arabia and he was keen to get away from PSG.

Now the striker has revealed that staying in Paris has left him and his family miserable.

He told Mundo Deportivo: “It’s been two years that I haven’t been happy.

“I didn’t enjoy it and it affected my family life. I missed a lot of my kids life at school.

“[They] was difficult for me. But they have my back.”

Messi’s arrival in Miami was well received by fans who took to the streets to cheer, waving Argentinian flags and honking car horns.

The world champion is expected to earn a whopping $150million (£119.34million) over the course of his two-and-a-half-year deal with Inter Miami.
