Lewis Hamilton steps up as Mercedes boss Toto Wolff promises F1 star two upgrades to his car including ‘the big one at Silverstone’

LEWIS HAMILTON could see a timely rebound as Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has promised two upgrades to his car.
The British driver has struggled to challenge points leader Max Verstappen this year and is already 93 points behind the Red Bull star in the F1 standings.
Things didn’t go much better for team-mate George Russell in the Mercedes.
The Brit was also struggling for top points as he currently sits sixth, two places behind Hamilton in the standings.
Hamilton has made it onto the podium three times, while Russell has finished in the top three just once and neither has won a race this season.
However, there could be an improvement for the Silver Arrows as they still have two upgrades to make to the car.
The car was slow on the straights and when accelerating out of slow corners, something Hamilton has commented on.
He said via Auto Moto Sport: “We need more downforce at the rear, better traction and less air resistance.”
And Wolff will respond by helping his two drivers upgrade the cars ahead of the summer break.
He admitted they have their sights set on the ‘big’ at the British GP on July 9th.

He said: “But we’re getting better there too.”
“The new platform we have now helps us with that.
“And we have two more races in the next few races.”
“One big one at Silverstone, the other before the summer break.”
Four more races remain before the summer break, including the Austrian GP on July 2, the British GP, the Hungarian GP on July 23 and the Belgian GP on July 30.
After the break, the teams meet for the Dutch GP on August 27 ahead of the final nine races of the season.
