And Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers, a longtime admirer, has made a late move to bring the Aberdeen-born centre-back to the King Power Stadium.
Souttar would become the Foxes’ third signing in January following the arrival of left-back Victor Kristiansen and winger Tete.
Stoke could make the move for Peterborough defender Ronnie Edwards, 19, to replace Souttar.
The 6ft 6in Australia international has made 13 appearances for his country since making his debut in 2019.
Souttar joined Stoke City from Dundee United in 2017.
But he had to spend time on loans in Ross County and Fleetwood Town before making his debut in 2020.
Souttar has played 70 times for the Championship outfit.
And he now seems poised to make the move to the Premier League with Leicester.

Boss Rodgers is on the lookout for a new centre-back to replace Atletico Madrid’s Caglar Soyuncu.
It will set off a transfer carousel, with the Turk’s arrival allowing Atleti to sell Felipe to Nottingham Forest.
And should a deal go through, Souttar could be pushed into the Leicester XI for this weekend’s derby at Aston Villa.
