If you told me I’d spend my Thursday night hoping for a werewolf and a demigod to kiss, I’d say, “Yeah, that’s my job.”
While it’s Thursday legacies hasn’t pulled the trigger on a Jed/Ben liplock (yet!), but it did appeal to the obvious chemistry fans that were noticed between them last week. And because patience is grossly overrated, Jed’s journey of discovery received a gentle nudge from a healthy dose of truth weed, leading to him revealing feelings for Ben that even he hasn’t quite worked out yet.
While Jed initially bent over backwards to ensure Ben’s first official day at the Salvatore School went smoothly, he changed his tune once the weeds of truth emerged. (That’s how you know it’s for the good.) “I’m afraid I’m going to say something stupid like I don’t want to be around you,” Jed told him. “I just want to be alone.” But as anyone with eyes, ears, and heart could tell you, Jed didn’t really want to be alone. He just wasn’t ready to face his truth.
Finch, of course, was the perfect person to track down Jed and chastise him for ghosting his new “friend.” But when she asked why Jed was avoiding him, he honestly couldn’t answer. “It’s all jumbled and confusing,” he explained. “And I feel this pressure, like I’m telling him the wrong thing.” (You’d have to be pulseless at this point not to realize what Jed eventually discovered about himself.) Unfortunately, Jed’s a-ha moment was stolen by Cleo interrupted, who just had her inspiration stolen by none other than Aurora.
After spotting Ben in the forest where Aurora forced him to tell her about the gods, Jed’s feelings became much clearer. “I had all these confusing feelings,” he told Finch. “It didn’t make sense until we thought he was in danger.” (Ok…) “Then I get it.” (On the way there…) “I think I like him.” (Bingo!) And just like that Jed finally found out what the rest of us have known all week. And I think it’s great that he’ll have Finch to guide him on this journey.
On the other hand, if Aurora successfully wakes up the very sleepy – and presumably very moody – gods, it will not end well for anyone.
Also worth discussing…
* Jed wasn’t the only character who got a bit upset this week. MG and Kaleb stopped by Ethan’s family’s new home and responded to reports that it might be haunted. What neither Sheriff Mac nor Maya knew was that Ethan was the alleged ghost in question; He hadn’t told them about his new powers yet. MG encouraged Ethan to stay clean and gave him the perfect advice for his situation: “Where there is love, there is grace. So give them a chance. They love you. They might accept you as you are. And if they don’t, I’ll be your family until they do.” I loved Maya’s response (“It’s still fucking weird, but he’s my brother either way”), and I love that she asked the boys to say hello to Finch for her. I totally forgot the two are one thing!
* It was anything but fun and games for Hope and Lizzie this week, even though the duo spent the entire hour at a real carnival. During a test of Lizzie’s potential as Hope’s new sidekick, they met a little girl whose sister was kidnapped by the (spoiler alert!) evil vampires who run the entire operation. Lizzie’s desire to save the girl’s sister caused her to fail the test immediately, freeing her from Hope’s quest. But the moment Hope sensed Lizzie was in danger, she rushed to her, leading to a phenomenal double action between the sire and the sire. Well, it wasn’t phenomenal for the evil, spooky vampire who was cut in half… but for everyone else? Phenomenal.
Hope’s opinion of Lizzie also changed after seeing how the new heretic treated the little girl. “It’s okay to miss her and be sad because you’ll feel something else, too,” Lizzie said. “You will feel your sister next to you no matter what.” Hope could see that she underestimated Lizzie’s strength, even though Lizzie made her promise not to break the sire bond after they killed Aurora. She’s not sure if she’s ready to face the world without her. And I don’t blame her.
