Lee County Schools has selected a new superintendent.
In a 6-1 vote, the board decided to negotiate a contract with Christopher Bernier.
Bernier will be required to negotiate and sign a contract before being officially appointed superintendent of the Lee County School District.
Bernier is in the lead along with Michael Ramirez, who spent 16 years with the Orange County school system.
Bernier spent 22 years in Broward County.
They were part of the final five candidates for the job.
Bernier will replace interim CEO Kenneth Savage, who was appointed to the job after Greg Adkins left the job last June.
