A former commander of the Wagner Group – Russia’s mercenary force – apologized for the fighting in Ukraine after fleeing to Norway.

Andrei Medvedev climbed through barbed wire fences to cross the Russian-Norwegian border on January 13.

He now wants to help ensure that Russia is punished for its illegal invasion of Ukraine.

Mr Medvedev said: “Many consider me a scoundrel, a criminal, a murderer.

“First of all, I want to say sorry over and over again, and while I don’t know how it would be received, I want to say I’m sorry.

“I want to explain that I’m not that person. Yes, I served with Wagner. There are some moments that people don’t like that I’ve even been through, but nobody’s born smart.”
