ONE person has died and children are among at least 24 others injured after a shooting at a local auto show in Dumas, Arkansas.
A suspect is currently in custody, and Arkansas State Police are continuing to search for more shooters.
The incident happened at about 7:25 a.m. local time, Arkansas State Police confirmed to The Sun of America.
Arkansas State Police Public Information Officer Bill Sadler told The Sun by email.
Desha County Emergency Management said the shooting happened in the Mad Butcher parking lot, located on US-165.
Arkansas State Police said up to 20 people were injured by bullets.
Police said they are looking into the possibility of multiple shootings and that one person of interest has been taken into custody, according to AR News.
Some of the victims are said to have been taken to the Delta Memorial. Other victims were taken to McGehee Hospital, and one child was taken to Arkansas Children’s Hospital. According to KARK 4’s Mitchell McCoy, at least two victims were loaded onto the plane from the parking lot where the shooting took place.
No additional information was released on the condition of those injured, and it is not known how many children were injured.
An investigator caring for the crime scene told KARK 4 the incident did not appear to be a “mass shooting situation.”
Video from a witness, but posted by McCoy, shows crowds gathering outside Delta Hospital.
An additional video posted by witnesses showed ambulances rushing to the scene.
Multiple sirens can be heard in the background.
One video showed dozens of people gathered around cars and trucks in a parking lot.
Then, gunshots were heard as people were running to safety.
Desha County Office of Emergency Management officials also told KARK 4 that two separate incidents occurred, the first being a chase and the pursuit that ended in a car crash.
Then the shooting happened.
According to the Delta Neighborhood Empowerment Youth Organization (NEYO) website, the 16th annual Hood-Nic Car Show was held today.
One of the organizers of the event, Wallace McGhee, told reporters there had never been a problem in 16 years.
“We apologize for all of this that has happened. This has never happened to us in our event ever,” McGhee said.
McGhee added that Delta NEYO is supporting those affected and sending condolences to the victims.

There was also a parade held this morning, as well as a bike show this evening, the website said.

In a statement, Jones said: “I am deeply saddened (and honestly angry) at this tragedy.
“Dumas needs our thoughts, our prayers.”
