Russian President Vladimir Putin is facing a coup d’état by his closest allies, who believe he has already “lost” the war against Ukraine.
Investigative journalist Christo Grozev suspects Putin is losing power amid opposition from Ukraine and reports of the Russian leader’s poor health.
And he believes that the despot Putin’s top cronies are unlikely to obey orders to launch nuclear weapons.
Speaking to Radio Liberty, Grozev said, “I think it’s the informed elite within the security forces that understand the war is lost.”
Grozev also warned Putin’s inner circle that the president needs full mass mobilization to win the war – but hardliners could press for the use of nuclear or chemical weapons.
He continued: “And this refusal will most likely be the trigger of a coup d’etat, because after refusing to obey the king’s order, everything will go down very quickly,” he added.
“If Putin decides to issue an order to use nuclear weapons, he needs to be sure that everyone in the chain will carry out that order.”
