The secret of work
LABOR’s claim that they think Brexit is done is a lie. In power, they would not hesitate to start reversing.
MEPs are now talking about rejoining the single market and the customs union, making it nonsensical if we vote to leave in 2016.
Anna McMorrin, a shadow secretary to Keir Starmer, boasts that once Labor were in power, Labor would have “leeway” to negotiate a closer deal.
“I hope that at some point we will return to the single market and the customs union. . . and then who knows in the future?” She says.
Starmer also wants a new Labor-led deal. Brussels would only consider it if it were willing to sacrifice our new, hard-won sovereignty. He would be.
Labor is telling leavers they only believe Brexit is irreversible lest they risk repeating their 2019 disaster. It’s a cynical lie, as big as Starmer, who vows to respect the referendum result and then works to overturn it.
Brexit will NOT be a dead topic in the 2024 election. Not if Labor keeps the Remoan dream alive.
outrage of migrants
The fact that the European Court of Justice thwarted the deportations from Rwanda last night is disgusting outrage.
Those who want to scrap human rights law and even leave the European Convention on Human Rights will get their money’s worth.
Britain developed this policy of last resort to discourage migrants from sailing to our shores in small boats and drowning.
It has the support of Tony Smith, Labour’s veteran Border Force leader, who rightly calls it “a bold step forward in our war against people smugglers”.
Nobody has a viable alternative. Especially not the left, who rants about “safe routes” that would simply dispense with border controls altogether.
You will be on your guard today. But Boris Johnson must not admit defeat. This policy needs to work.
We cannot allow European judges to give illegal economic migrants the green light to sail to the UK.
FIVE years later, the pain and horror of the Grenfell disaster have not faded.
We join those who commended the survivors and families at the moving anniversary service and continue to call for justice for the 72 victims.
In 2017, The Sun called for a forensic investigation – as free as possible of emotion and political point-scoring – to determine exactly what went wrong.
Uncovering these mistakes is a monumental task, with architects, contractors, paneling manufacturers, public officials, politicians and the fire service potentially being blamed.
Still, it’s hard not to share the families’ immense frustration that both the investigation and the police investigation are still ongoing with no charges yet being filed.
Does the community of Grenfell have to wait a decade for justice? This can not be right.
