The former president said; “He, a retired idiot, should be committed to a psychiatric hospital unconditionally. There he could play a cool guy demanding to start World War III.”

Meanwhile, a convoy of Wagner mercenaries was seen entering Belarus from Russia yesterday, as the country’s defense ministry said it was planning joint military exercises with them.

In the Daily Mail, Johnson accused the West of “indecisiveness” and “sucking and blowing at the same time” in dealing with Putin for over two decades.

He lamented that this week’s summit in Vilnius, Lithuania, failed to go beyond the goal set in 2005 on Ukraine’s path to NATO membership.

“All Ukrainians got this week was an ‘invitation’ to join NATO ‘if allies agree and conditions are met,'” he said.

“No wonder President Zelenskyy initially found it difficult to hide his frustration.”

The Ukrainians should have been told that their accession would be “as soon as the war was over”, possibly as early as next year.

Blaming Rishi Sunak, he stressed, “The restraint is not in London.”

Some other Western leaders mistakenly believed that NATO membership could be swapped over the war as part of a future peace deal with Putin, he said.

“This is insane,” Johnson wrote.

“During this war, there was a tendency for the West to keep making the same mistake: overestimating Putin and underestimating Ukraine.”
