Kim’s anger as West deploys 38 warships, 170 planes and 25,000 troops amid fears the tyrant will detonate nuclear bombs

ANGRY Kim Jong-un has slammed the West for deploying warships, planes and thousands of troops amid fears the tyrant will detonate a nuclear bomb.

The North Korean dictator lashed out after the US announced it would lead the Rim of the Pacific exercise on its doorstep near Hawaii and southern California.

The war games from June 29 to August 4 will involve 26 nations, 38 warships, four submarines, nine national land forces, more than 170 aircraft and 25,000 soldiers.

The forces “will exercise a wide range of capabilities and demonstrate the inherent flexibility of naval forces”.

Both South Korea and Japan will take part in what the US Navy has described as “the world’s largest international maritime exercise.”

But North Korea has blasted the US-led joint exercise, claiming the West is destabilizing the Korean peninsula and increasing the risk of military conflict.

Ri Myong-hak of the North Korean State Institute for Disarmament and Peace said: “Due to the aggressive and hegemonic US Indo-Pacific strategy, the region faces the constant threat of military conflict.

“This in turn has a negative impact on the Korean Peninsula.”

Yonhap News reports that he has criticized the US on more than 10 occasions this year for conducting “war drills” in the Pacific Ocean.

“The world should recognize who is the real culprit in violating the peace and remain vigilant to US military actions,” he said in a post on the State Department website.

This year’s Rim of the Pacific is the 28th exercise in the series, which began in 1971.

South Korea, the US and Japan also plan to conduct missile warning and ballistic missile search and tracking exercises near Hawaii in early August to counter North Korea’s developing missile threat.

South Korea reportedly said the exercises could be held in conjunction with the RIMPAC exercise, but declined to comment on a specific date.

Defense Ministry spokesman Moon Hong-sik said: “The security environment of the Korean Peninsula faces a significantly increasing nuclear and missile threat from North Korea.

“So we decided it was time for the three countries to publicize the drills we’ve been conducting in response.”

It comes after Kim issued a chilling warning to the West as he prepares to launch a nuclear bomb at any moment.

The US pledged to “react quickly” with allies should Kim push ahead with a nuclear test.

South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin said North Korea has now completed preparations for a new nuclear bombing exercise – and only a political decision by the ruler can stop it.

On Sunday, North Korea appeared to have fired artillery shells at the sea, according to the South Korean military — days after Kim called for greater defense capability to deal with outside threats.

Kim has carried out more rocket launches so far this year than any previous year, in an alarming warning to Seoul and Washington.

Its long-range forward artillery pieces pose a serious security threat to South Korea’s populous metropolitan area, which is only 40 to 30 miles from the northern border.

Earlier this month, North Korea fired eight ballistic missiles simultaneously from multiple locations as Kim boasted that he would “shake the world” with more missile tests.

Analysts have warned Kim could speed up nuclear test plans to distract North Korean people from the catastrophic Covid outbreak.
