On Friday, Kim shared a selfie she took with a group of former inmates she was helping free.
In the caption, she explained, “They were all sentenced to life in prison … and served decades in prison before being paroled by the parole board or commuted by the governor.
“They completely changed their lives and dedicated the rest of their lives to youth and working at ARC and Smart Justice.”
According to its website, the “Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC) is working to end mass incarceration in California … and provide a support network, comprehensive reentry services, and opportunities to advocate for political change.”

The inmates Kim worked with were being held at Pelican Bay Prison — one of the most dangerous prisons in the state.
Kim continued, “But these days, the men in Pelican Bay are getting college degrees, making incredible art, training rescue dogs, becoming computer programmers, and doing self-help and programming with victims of crime.”
However, what should have been a well-received social justice message instead turned on the reality star.
In the shared selfie, Kim posed with “duck lips,” which many felt were out of touch.

“WHY CAN YOU NEVER TAKE A PICTURE WITHOUT MAKE YOUR LIPS LIKE THIS????” shouted one person.
“It’s so immature and stupid,” added another, while a third reiterated, “She really needs to grow up, it’s very unprofessional.”
A fourth person simply asked, “Why couldn’t you have just smiled?”
DUCK DEJA VU
But the special pose is nothing new for the activist.
Last month, KIm shared a pair of snaps in which she pursed her lips and pouted while throwing up a peace sign.
Kim simply captioned the post with a lip emoji, but fans weren’t exactly happy with the TV personality’s usual pose.
“Can’t you just take a picture with a straight face?” wrote an angry user in the comment section.
Another asked, “Why are you still making that duck face?” while one person chimed in, “Why are you making your face like that?”
HELPING HAND
Kim has helped ex-prisoners before.
The model has been influential in several notable cases, helping prisoners get transferred off death row and fully released from the prison system.
In 2018, Kim helped free 64-year-old Alice Marie Johnson, who was in prison on a nonviolent drug charge.

In 2019, she helped release 39-year-old Momolou Stewart, who was arrested as a minor but tried as an adult.
She also freed Crystal Munoz and Judith Negron through her campaign to free women from prison.
