A NEW lead has surfaced as authorities continue to search for missing 16-year-old Kiely Rodni.
Kiely, 16, disappeared around 12:30 a.m. on August 7 near the Prosser family’s campground in Truckee, California, after a wild end-of-school party.
The latest update comes straight from the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.
“We have developed information that Kiely could be seen in video at the party wearing the white sweatshirt in this photograph earlier in the evening,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
However, it remains unclear whether Kiely was wearing this sweatshirt when she was last seen.
The message on this sweatshirt reads: “Odd future.”
Officials had previously released information about another sweatshirt they believed Kiely may have been wearing at the time of her disappearance.
They had thought she might have been wearing this sweatshirt, borrowed from a friend, later that night as the temperature dropped in the woods.
The message on this sweatshirt is “You don’t want to be forgotten. You just want to disappear.”
The quote is from a poem titled “Past the Bushes Cypress Thriving” by Lana Del Rey.
‘LORD OF THE FLIES’
Kiely’s friend Sami Smith shared footage of the party on Friday August 6, which took place in the public wooded area surrounding the campsite.
The video shows dozens of teenagers gathered in the tree-lined land with rubbish strewn around, including what appear to be empty alcohol bottles.
In another scene, a group of youngsters are seen partying while a light from a cellphone shines on them.
The community has hosted conversations between teenage adults and law enforcement to get them to come up with relevant information about Kiely’s disappearance.
Sami told The US Sun: “I think a lot of them were afraid to talk, they were involved in illegal activities in the forest, it’s like this Lord of the Flies room where they can just be.
“We’ve said time and time again, we’re not investigating any of yours, we’re working with you on a missing person investigation, it’s not about things you shouldn’t have done.
“But it’s also hard because there are so many teenagers, how are their relationships with their parents? That can define a lot of what they will say. Are you used to hiding everything?
“They are afraid of the consequences or how they will be viewed, how their parents will react. But at this point, who cares? We have to find her.”
The Sun also understands that the teenagers sometimes “fighted” in the evenings and both smoked weed and drank alcohol.
Sami, who claimed she became uncomfortable as the party got bigger, also told reporters that she and Kiely drank from the same containers, took shots and went back to her car together to charge Kiely’s phone.
She walked in front of Kiely and there were no confirmed sightings of her taking drugs or walking at the party.
‘SKETCHIG OLDER BOYS’
The US Sun first revealed that the party at the campsite was broken up by the older men in a conversation with Sami.
She said Kiely “told her mom that she was going to be the designated driver because that’s how she went to the party and gave an alibi so her mom wouldn’t freak out and be like, ‘I want you to come home early.’ “
She previously explained to The US Sun: “The person she said would evict actually drove me there so I know she was just evicting a friend.
“She was planning on getting drunk and getting ready. I asked her earlier that night if she could take me home but she was unable to drive.
“The last recorded sighting of her was at 12.40pm, I was the last person to speak to her at 12.36am as she asked me if I needed a ride home.
“Now we know there were a lot of college guys, teens come into our teen-to-teen conversations.
“There were a lot of sketchy, older guys that were seen there. That was right around the time I left, the last time we had contact.
“She had asked her mum for a later curfew, she wanted to write to her mum that she couldn’t find her friend, which is why she was coming home late. I don’t think she ever sent that message.
“As the 72 hour mark gets ever closer, I haven’t slept in two days now. I slept a maximum of four hours altogether. It’s tough, to be honest.”
Friends went on to say they believe the older boys may have come from Sacramento or Nevada City.
