Kidderminster Harriers FA Cup hero Matt Preston was rushed to hospital with ‘serious injuries’ as match was called off

KIDDERMINSTER HARRIERS FA Cup hero Matt Preston is being treated in hospital after suffering ‘serious injuries’ during the game against Alfreton Town.

26 years old, who was named man of the match in Kidderminster’s 2-1 FA Cup fourth round loss to West Ham two weeks ago, he was injured after a challenge in the 25th minute of the National League North game on Saturday.

The Medics worked his way through the 25 minutes on the field before the game was cancelled.

Preston was then taken to hospital by ambulance as he received further treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

Later X-rays showed he likely broke his legs.

On Sunday afternoon, Preston posted a picture about him giving a thumbs up off his hospital bed.

And he added: “Just coming out of my first surgery, really blown away by the love being shown, absolutely overwhelmed.

“Thanks to everyone who sent in the message, it’s much appreciated, and not a single one is ignored!

“But I will come back stronger.”

A statement from Harriers read: “Matt Preston is currently being treated at the hospital.

“Matt has suffered a serious ankle injury, which has led to the cancellation of the schedule.

“He received immediate care at Aggborough before being taken to hospital in Birmingham.

“All our thoughts at this point are on Matt. We will provide fans with any further updates as and when they become available.”

While, West Ham Man Declan Rice was quick to send his best wishes to Preston as he praised the non-league player.

He tweeted: “It was incredible against us last week, even a better person off the pitch.

“Wishing you a speedy recovery, Matt.”

Preston previously played for Walsall, Swindon Town, Mansfield Town, Barnet and Solihull Moors.

He was the star of the performance in Kidderminster’s FA Cup clash with West Ham – a match that saw them leading 1-0 until injury time.

Shortly after Preston was named man of the match by commentator Dion Dublin, the hosts then conceded a goal in front of the Premier League outfit when Declan Rice equalized.

And Jarrod Bowen then won the game for The Hammers in extra time at the end of extra time.
