Kelvin Gastelum has confirmed he has received and signed an agreement as he prepares to begin his 2022 campaign.
While UFC fighter may have once been considered a top contender in the middleweight, things didn’t go quite so well for Gastelum in last few battles. It’s been a long time since he’s considered a dangerous guy at 185 pounds. This probably goes back to his absolute classics match against Israel Adesanya in 2019.
Alas, the beginning of the new year offers a chance for him to start fresh, which is exactly what he wants to do in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
He’s been on a quest to earn gold since joining the promotion. He will be hoping to go one step further to get there in his first fight in 2022, which seems to have come close:
“The mass deal was signed and delivered today. This story is far from real. #OnAmission4Gold”
UFC and Dana White are clearly still see something in Gastelum, as they have done since he won The Ultimate Fighter 17. However, he needs to start proving himself inside the octagon.
Who has Kelvin Gastelum been fighting lately?
After losing to Adesanya in April 2019, Kelvin Gastelum has had a string of days that can only be described as pathetic for his title prospects. He was beaten by Darren Till and Jack Hermansson to victory over Ian Heinisch in early 2021 leaving many hoping and believing that he can turn the tide.
Unfortunately, two tough tests against Jared Cannonier and Robert Whittaker came – both of which he lost by unanimous decision.
The fact that he has never been knocked down bodes well for his future, but at 30, now is the time for him to start putting it all together.

Kelvin Gastelum is as tough as they come but that won’t be enough for the UFC if a new batch of middleweight stars begins to emerge.
