On Monday’s episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the host sat down with fellow musicians The Chicks to discuss the group’s upcoming tour.

During the interview, Kelly asked the chicks, Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer, about their songwriting craft and “how hard it is [it] to write so openly and honestly while navigating [their] children” and their relatives.

Emily replied, “There’s no getting around it. If you’re falsely right, it doesn’t work. You have to be real.”

She continues, “The more specific you are, the more universal it is to other people.”

Kelly then bluntly says, “We’ve all been through divorces. How did you two find strength?”

The voice coach is quick to add, “And not just music. I think it’s therapeutic, but like your female friendships. I feel like that’s really helped me.”

Martie replies, “I don’t know when [Natalie] came into the studio first and said, ‘Guys, I just want to tell you guys I’m getting divorced’.”

Natalie jokes, “What time was that?” while the other three laugh.

“The first one,” Martie chuckles as she then continues, “I remember thinking I’m getting a divorce, now she says she’s getting a divorce, now I can’t say I’m getting a divorce”.

Natalie chimes in: “So I’m like boys, I’m getting a divorce and Martie is like, ‘I have a terrible marriage'”.

The lead singer then lovingly adds, “We were divorce buddies.”

LEAVES DIXIE BEHIND

In 2020, the Dixie Chicks decided to change their band’s name to The Chicks.

The longtime musicians have also made sure to feature their newest band name on the cover of their album Gaslighter.

Their official website included some words related to the decision.

It read, “We want to hit this moment.”

Amid the Black Lives Matter movement, the band faced a lot of pressure to change their name.

KELLY’S DIVORCE

Clarkson filed for divorce in Los Angeles on June 4, 2020, citing “irreconcilable differences” — and the process was difficult.

During the nasty split, the talk show host won custody of their two children.

Clarkson met her music manager and ex-husband backstage at a rehearsal for the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2006.

The couple got engaged in December 2012 and married a year later at a luxury estate in Tennessee.

On March 8, 2022, it was reported that Clarkson and Blackstock reached a divorce settlement that included a custody and child support agreement between the two.

LIFE IN THE GARBAGE HOUSE

Clarkson admitted she “didn’t see” their divorce at the premiere of her show’s 2020 season.

“[It] changed my private life a lot. I definitely didn’t see anything coming that was coming.”

“But what I’m dealing with is difficult because it affects more than just my heart. It affects many little hearts.”

“You know we have four kids and divorce is never easy and we both come from divorced families so we know the best thing here is to protect our kids and their little hearts.”

Kelly was also candid about her divorce from Willie Geist on Sunday Today, claiming her life is a “dumpster.”

The Miss Independent singer said: “I mean, it’s no secret. My life has been a bit of a dumpster.

“Personally, it was a bit difficult with the last couples [of] Months.”

“I’ve spoken to friends who are going through a divorce.

“I don’t know how people go through this without some kind of outlet because it’s the worst thing ever for everyone involved.”

SUPPORT BRANDON

Kelly’s ex, Brandon Blackstock, is claiming $5.2 million a year in spousal support.

A source close to the former couple told PEOPLE that Brandon was seeking $436,000 a month in spousal and child support.

The source said: “Brandon has been equally unreasonable in his requests for child support, spousal support and attorney’s fees.

“Kelly has offered to pay for all of the children’s expenses, but Brandon seems to think he owes and needs spousal support of $301,000 and $135,000 a month in child support a month.”

If Bandon’s application had been approved, he would have received more than $5.2 million a year.

According to Us Weekly, “The two reached an agreement in March after almost two years together. Clarkson agreed to pay $45,601 a month in child support until River and Remington turned 18, graduated from high school, or otherwise became self-employed. She was also ordered to pay her ex-husband $115,000 a month in child support through January 2024, in addition to a one-time tax-free fee of $1,326,161.”
