KELL BROOK didn’t sleep for THREE DAYS after winning the IBF weightlifting belt to make sure he wasn’t dreaming.
Sheffield slugger claimed red 147lb strap on enemy territory eight years ago with a decisive majority victory over Shawn Porter in California.
Brooks was already on cloud nine after completing his life’s work, so he didn’t want to risk losing that euphoric feeling by getting his 40 winks.
I said BBC: “I think I have to say [the highlight would be] won the world title.
“Obviously going to Carson, California, going to America – his back garden – and winning the world title.
“I didn’t sleep for three days because I was afraid that if I went to bed, I would wake up and it was a dream. I swear I was walking on air.”
The jubilation he felt seconds after being announced that he had dethroned Porter behind enemy lines was a moment Special K would never forget.
“Everybody who walks into boxing gyms around the world wants to go out and be a world champion,” he said.
“Not only won your own back garden, Sheffield, the city of Sheffield, I went to his back garden in the US and everyone got rid of me. And I won a close match.
“I don’t want to go to sleep.
“You can immediately see the emotion when I win and what it means to me.
“For someone who wears those gloves, they all want to be world champions. Go out and do it. [mean’t so much to me]. “
And he promises a dramatic fight that will make ‘King’ Khan explode across the frame.
When asked about Khan’s weakness, he said: “His mustache. His chin. The world knows his chin isn’t there.”
He added: “Pace meets speed.” I am always looking for ways to execute my shots.
“We’re in it for a long time – there will be a time when we’ll trade. There’s going to be a lot of drama in the fight.”
