KEITH THURMAN makes Mario Barrios look like an ‘Avatar character’ after their brutal fight.

Former Unified Champion Thurman is back in the ring for the first time since his defeat to the now retired Manny Pacquiao in July 2019.

And he marks his return in a number of styles and had an epic performance against Barrios of America.

Barrios was almost unrecognizable after 12 grueling rounds and fans on Twitter likened him to something out of the 2009 Avatar classic.

One said: “Mario Barrios out there looks like an Avatar.”

Another said: “Barrios turned into an Avatar.”

One added: “Barrios got that Avatar nose.”

According to Compubox, Thurman made 181 of 665 punches, with 27% accuracy while Barrios connected with 105 of 492 throws, with 21% success.

Thurman, 33, said: “This is the fight back after two and a half years apart.

“I wish I had the best performance but I did the best I could given the circumstances.”

Barrios, 26, said: “Tonight I showed the Mexican warrior in me. I tip my hat to Keith Thurman; He is also a warrior. We gave the fans a great battle.

“I think I’ve made a great introduction to the welterweight division and I’m ready to fight all the big names.

“I will always give the fans an explosive boxing night and I can’t wait to get back there.”
