Katy Perry sheds tears in American Idol season 20 trailer as judge Luke Bryan says star is ‘scrap’

KATY Perry broke down in tears during the American Idol season 20 trailer after hearing a heartbreaking story from one of the contestants.

The pop star and her fellow judges will return to the ABC show on Sunday for the season premiere.

Katy37 years old, became very emotional in preview trailer after knowing one of the contestant’s tragic comedy stories.

The video begins with the singer making a confession in front of the camera, saying, “Sometimes a person walks into a room. We can empathize with them.

“There’s no mistake when you’re honest,” she explains.

The scene then shifts to contestant Tyler Allen from Mobile, Alabama, who talks about losing his “nephew” before auditioning in front of the judges.

“I dedicate this to my nephew, who passed away. When Noah died, he was one.

“He just started learning to walk. The song that I’m going to sing today is the one I usually sing to him when I rock him to sleep.

“Singing is my cure,” he asserts as Katy bursts into tears.

The celebrity judge was unable to feel comfortable hearing Tyler’s story, as she could be seen crying throughout his audition.

Her fellow judge, Luke Bryan, then agreed, “Katy is a piece of crap,” and Lionel Richie agreed: “Confusing,” before the clip ended with the singer sobbing.

The popular singing competition will return for its 20th season this year, with a few changes in the works.

The show will celebrate its 20th anniversary since it first premiered in 2002, and celebrate Ryan Seacrest There will be some surprises in store for viewers.

Judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perryand Luke Bryan will all return as judges on American Idol this season, and producer and executive showrunner Megan Wolflick said they’re excited to welcome them back.

However, Bobby Bones who was the 4th judge in the previous 4 seasons was disqualified due to a commitment conflict.

Expired now Instagram post, Bones said, “Some of you noticed that I’m not on the Idol promo this season. My contract (with) my new network won’t allow me to do a show. different now. Love Idol, btw. 4 years is great.”

Wolflick said they don’t have another person in line to replace Bones, but there are alternative ideas in the works to include former American Idol contestants and winners.


Ryan Seacrest said he wants to bring back old faces from previous seasons to celebrate the show’s highs, lows, and everything in between.

“About the contestants, I want to see every single one of them come back, go back to the beginning,” he said Parade.

“I remember a moment with Clay (Aiken) and Ruben (Stoddard), I want to see Carrie (Underwood) again, I love to see Jennifer Hudson. I can remember standing next to them, looking at their faces and reactions in moments of success and challenge.”
