Katy Perry has American Idol contestants in tears as she shares devastating news – and fans are furious

AMERICAN Idol judge Katy Perry shattered the dreams of several women tonight as they left the show in tears.
Following this week’s Showstopper performances, American Idol judges Katy, 38, Lionel Richie, 73, and Luke Bryan, 46, had to narrow the candidate pool down to their top 24.

Among the contestants were Mikenley Brown, Caroline Kole and Kya Monee.
Each woman entered the judges’ room individually to see if she made the top 24 or not.
Though they enter one at a time, thanks to some Hollywood editing magic, America hears their fate at the same time.
Starting off, Katy told Caroline, “I appreciate what you did by leaving your hair down and showing a different side.”

In a confessional, Caroline admitted that she “wanted to get to this point so badly. Getting a yes, getting Top 24 would absolutely change my life.”
In the next shot, Katy told Mikenley, “It was incredible to see you grow before our eyes.”
“Even if I don’t [go through to the top 24] I’m so proud of what I just left behind on stage,” Mikenley explained in her confessional.
“I don’t think we’ve ever had a class like this before and I’m telling you – you were in there,” Lionel said to Kya.

Katy added, “What’s really challenging is that we have to send away all kinds of people who are so close to us.”
Lionel then broke the news, “And as much as I don’t want to say this, you won’t be in our top 24.”
After being fired from the show, Caroline cried while being held by her mother.
Mikenley was in tears while surrounded by her supportive parents.
Kya started crying in front of the judges before she could even leave the room.
YOU ARE ‘TRIPPIN’
Fans of the competition show on Twitter and Reddit weren’t happy with the outcome of today’s eliminations — especially when it comes to these three women.
One Idol fan commented, “It’s insane how much I disagreed with the judges’ decisions this year.”
Another fan tweeted: “Every year they annoy me when at least one of my favorites doesn’t make it, but this year I’m furious. Not cool idol… not cool.”
A few fans cheered for Mikenley, saying: “WTF they cut Mikenley???? and “No, I love Mikenley.”
Others disagreed with the judges, saying, “Caroline Kole is ready.”
More fans loved Kya and said, “Judges, you guys are tripping! Kya deserved it” and “Will be salty for the rest of the episode because Kya didn’t come through.”
MIND TRICK
Katy also took a lot of heat from fans in yesterday’s episode after messing around with several contestants’ heads.
Yesterday was the first round of Showstopper Eliminations and they were just as emotional as today’s eliminations.
Contestant Nutsa was the third singer to audition, and the jury revealed things were already “rocky” because she “slept through” practicing for the duet portion of the competition.
She belted out Proud Mary by Tina Turner, and then the broadcast cut back to the judges.
Katy said: “We really appreciated you entering this competition and we didn’t put you in the top 24.”
Somber background music played and Nuspa whispered, “It’s OK” as she began to cry.
There was a long pause and the singer looked around the stage, wondering if there was more to say.
Katy then added: “YOU got you into this top 24. Nutsa, you got yourself into that top 24!” Katy continued, trying to explain that the confused contestant had gone through.
She then admitted she was unclear: “We didn’t put you in there, you did. As confusing as it seems, you’re going into the top 24!”
Nutsa then celebrated after the roller coaster ride from the judge and called her mother.
Fans were left shaken by Katy’s move, with one tweeting, “The #AmericanIdol twists can twist things but for someone as confused as @nutsabuza…don’t worry she made the top 24!”
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone more confused on national TV,” wrote another.

“Can Katy stop… I’m done with this #AmericanIdol shit just tell ’em pass or not all the extra we don’t need to rush next contestant please,” wrote a third.
“Katy pauses after the trick insult to give you time to guess the correcting cliché. Duh,” wrote a fourth.
