KATE Garraway has a rare piece of good news about husband Derek Draper in tonight’s emotional documentary.
54-year-old Good Morning Britain star secretly brought him to Mexico for a groundbreaking medical trial.
On ITV’s Kate Garraway: Caring for Derek, she is told he will keep all of his memories after going with him to South America.
The presenter asked a doctor, after reviewing her poor husband’s brain scans: “Do we know if he still has thoughts in his head and just can’t get them out? “
“Or do we know those thoughts are gone?”
The doctor replied: “There is no connection between thinking ‘what do I mean?’ with ‘I say it’ is slow, disconnected. But thoughts are not lost.”
Kate replied with tears in her eyes: “Thoughts aren’t lost. OK. That’s great to hear.
“That’s really great to hear, it makes me feel pretty emotional. So he’s still in there, we just have to get him out.”
Derek, a former cameraman, was infected with the coronavirus in March 2020 and was put into a coma by doctors.
He was then hospitalized for 374 days and now he is in such constant need of care that Kate reveals he will die without help in three days.
Many viewers of Kate Garraway: Caring For Derek could not help but sob at the very beginning of the “inspirational” film as the camera brings the camera into the life of a family struggling to maintain a normal life.
Derek celebrated his birthday with children Darcey and William in a new ITV documentary.
He was heard reading a card in a whisper: “To the greatest dad in the world. Happy birthday, love you so much. I’m so proud of you.”
And as he broke down and sobbed, so did many ITV viewers watching at home.
One fan tweeted Kate to say: “Just ten more minutes and I’m done. Your kids are so beautiful and your eloquent care is inspiring. Derek is truly an amazing person. often.”
Another told her: “You and your family are amazing, an emotional kate watch ❤ Derek is a miracle ❤.”
