Justin Rose was forced to withdraw from The Open through injury after going off the course during the practice round

JUSTIN ROSE has withdrawn from The Open after suffering a back injury on Wednesday.

The 41-year-old suffered a stroke in the last practice session before the start of the Major tournament at St Andrews on Thursday morning.

The pain of the injury was so great that the former US Open winner had to abandon his practice session.

Rose wanted to shake off the problem earlier on the range today but walked away in pain when he couldn’t get past it.

And now he had to leave the competition in the first round, which started at 6:35 am.
