Just in time for summer, the top six convertibles under £10,000 are unveiled

Summer is fast approaching and what better way to prepare for the warmer weather than treating yourself to a convertible.
Just get behind the wheel, lower the top and off you go – it’s a great way to travel.
Of course, there are plenty of pricey new models to choose from, but wind-in-your-hair motoring doesn’t have to break the bank – and you’ll be surprised at what you can get if you’re willing to explore the used market and snag one Bargain.
The car experts at Pistonheads.com have created six convertible models for under £10,000 so you can enjoy summertime in true style and maybe organize a road trip en route.
Porsche Boxster 986, 2001, 36,000, £9,995

6
Porsche got to the point with the Boxster when it was first presented in 1996 – quality and driving pleasure simply cannot be denied. For around £10,000 you can buy a 2001 model with just 36,000 miles on the clock while its open-top 2.7-litre boxer engine sounds so good
Mazda MX-5 Mk2, 2002, 5,000, £9,995

6
If you don’t like a Boxster, you should always consider the classic Mazda MX-5. The Mk2 doesn’t look as good as the first generation model with the pop-up headlights, but the later car still drives well enough. Pistonheads found a model with incredibly low mileage – only 5,000 miles from new. A noble machine for not too much money.
Lotus Elan M100, 1991, 140,000, £8,495

6
OK, a 100,000+ km Lotus might not be everyone’s idea of a reliable summer convertible, but a neat convertible, for example, is still worth a look. The other thing to point out is that Lotus has reportedly spent an unprecedented £37m on development and it shows in the way it drives.
Alfa Romeo Spider V6, 2007, 77,000, £9,995

6
Alfas have a reputation for stunning design but less than impressive reliability. The Spider looks absolutely fantastic, which is key to what many convertible buyers are looking for – and it’s fitted with a 260hp V6 engine too.
Mercedes-Benz SL500, 2005, 76,000, £9,995

6
The Mercedes is without a doubt one of the classiest contenders on the list. With a car this complex, however, you need to stick to the basics – making sure it comes with a service history and possibly paying for an independent inspection before committing to the purchase. Of course, a 2005 model isn’t perfect among them given its age and mileage, but at least you’ll know if big bills are coming your way.
Nissan 350Z Roadster, 2009, 81,000, £9,995

6
The 350 Z Roadster is a really fine car that is worth listing here. It’s an easy everyday driver with a fairly smooth ride, but can also offer a decent level of fun with its 3.5-litre V6 engine that’s powerful enough to put a smile on your face. With the roof open, you can enjoy things even more.
