Jurgen Klopp claims Liverpool are “within striking distance” of the Premier League title after double-winning 2023

JURGEN KLOPP has hailed Liverpool‘s double-winning 2022 and warned they remain within “touching distance” of the title in 2023.
The Reds, who won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup this year, return to Prem action today at Aston Villa, 15 points behind leaders Arsenal.

The German says he’s ready to get started in 2023 but also reflected on the harrowing scenes at the Champions League final, when Reds fans were shot at with tear gas in Paris.
Klopp said: “From a sporting point of view, 2022 was a pretty successful year I would say.
“It started with the Carabao Cup final. The FA Cup final was special, I enjoyed it so much.
“Then the league was pretty spectacular.
“We became close again, I know that’s not appreciated that much, I understand that when you get closer. But from a coaching perspective, I’m pretty proud of it.
“The Champions League final, Mr Courtois, had a pretty good day.
“We did quite well but it didn’t feel that night, it didn’t feel for various reasons that we didn’t know exactly right after the game when we were already down.
“But as we heard our families’ stories of what was happening around the stadium, it was clear it was a special night for all the wrong reasons.
“So it’s not going to be a Champions League final that we’re going to remember for the rest of our lives.”
Klopp added: “The new season has started, it hasn’t quite worked out as we had imagined. But that’s life, you have to deal with the circumstances.
“We fought our way through and are within striking distance now and that’s all I need.
“And from here we go again, I can’t wait. For New Year’s Eve and then for 2023, trying to learn from the mistakes we or other people made in 2022 and working together and helping each other and making it the best year of our lives. Let’s try it together.”
