JUNE Preston has died of dementia at the age of 93.
The star is best known for her appearances in It Happened One Night and Christmas in July.
June died last Wednesday at a nursing home in Montclair, New Jersey, her daughter Sabrina Pires announced to The Hollywood Reporter.
The star’s legendary career began at the young age of three when she was spotted on the RKO studio property and signed to a seven-year contract.
She would soon make her screen debut in 1934’s Anne of Green Gables opposite Anne Shirley.
However, she would turn heads thanks to Frank Capra’s famous film It Happened One Night (1934), which went on to win five Oscars, including best picture.
Aside from acting, June has had another creative pursuit: dancing since she began her training at Meglin Dance Studio in Beverly Hills and Santa Monica.
Other famous names who trained at the studio included famous stars like Shirley Temple, Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, Virginia Gray and others.
June’s impressive career continued away from the big screen as she has also had numerous merchandising deals for various clothing items such as swimsuits, coats, purses and even a range of toys and dolls.
While her acting career would end at age 15 with her last major feature film, 1943’s Happy Land, it would not mean the end of June’s passion for the creative arts.
A year after her graduation film, she was discovered by the German conductor and singing teacher Gustav Stern.
June soon went on tour, making her debut in a leading role with a Metropolitan Opera company at just 24 years old.
Over the next 10 years she performed at some of the most famous opera houses around the world.
Nicknamed the “Golden Voice,” June was inducted into the West Seattle High School Hall of Fame in 1996, where she received praise from George and Barbara Bush.
She is survived by her daughter Sabrina, son-in-law John, and sister Lita.
