LIVERPOOL star Jordan Henderson has been called up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad after returning from injury faster than expected.
The 32-year-old has missed the Reds’ last three games in all competitions after struggling with a hamstring problem.
His setback meant he wasn’t included in the latest 28-man squad for the forthcoming Nations League games against Italy and Germany.
With Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips having to step down with a shoulder injury, Southgate has reached out to ex-Sunderland ace Henderson.
England have confirmed the announcement in a statement, with Henderson now fighting to appear in Milan on Friday.
Henderson faced his Three Lions teammates at St George’s Park on Monday night.
The decision to call Henderson came after he completed a series of training sessions over the weekend.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is believed to be happy his skipper is leaving with England, hoping he can improve his game fitness by getting some playing time.
Henderson has not played since the Merseyside side’s 2-1 win over Newcastle at Anfield on August 31.
He then missed the 0-0 draw with Everton before missing the 4-1 Champions League defeat by Napoli and the 2-1 win over Ajax.

Henderson was aware that this England squad was his last chance to impress in person at Southgate ahead of the World Cup in Qatar in November.
The 62-cap international has only played once for England in 2022 – a 2-1 friendly win over Switzerland.
He was dropped from England’s squad for the four Nations League games in June, where they failed to win any of their games against Hungary, Italy and Germany.
Southgate felt it would be best for Henderson to be given a break from football after making 57 appearances for Liverpool in the 2021/22 season – the most appearances in a single season in his career to date.
