Joliet man charged in drunk driving crash that injured 10-year-old son


JOLIET TOWNSHIP.
Police say Christopher Hernandez hit a vehicle just after 5 p.m. while driving west on Plainfield Road at Hennepin Drive. Authorities said the collision caused both cars to lose control and collide with two other vehicles waiting in the left turn lane of Plainfield Road east.
According to police, Hernandez fled the scene with his 10-year-old son, who was seriously injured.
Other details revealed that Hernandez carried her injured son to a nearby store, left him there and ran away.
First responders transported Hernandez’s son to Amita St Joseph Medical Center to treat his broken leg. The driver and passenger who remained at the scene of the collision were unharmed.
Hernandez was later arrested in the 1200 block of Wyoming Avenue and charged with four more serious DUI counts, endangering the life of a child, failure to remain at the scene of a crash, personal injury, and obstruction. / against a peace officer.
