Joey Barton does NOT commit a crime by attacking an opponent in the tunnel at the end of the match

JOEY Barton has been found not guilty of assaulting former Barnsley coach Daniel Stendel in the tunnel at the end of a League One football game.

The Bristol Rovers manager was arrested at Sheffield Crown Court following the incident in April 2019.

At the time, Stendel was managing Barnsley and Barton was in charge of Fleetwood Town.

Barton began his football career with Manchester City in 2002 after going through their youth system and made 150 appearances for the club.

He then moved to Newcastle United for £5.8 million in July 2007 before leaving Queens Park Rangers in August 2011.

The midfielder was then loaned to France’s Marseille for the 2012-13 season before moving to Burnley for a season – helping them gain promotion to the Premier League.

Barton made one appearance for England in 2007.
