Who is Joey Bada$$?
Joey Bada$$, real name Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott, was born on January 20, 1995 and grew up in Brooklyn, New York.
After studying acting at Edward R. Murrow High School, Joey switched to rapping.
He began writing poetry and songs as a child, and his talent led him to found the hip-hop collective Progressive Era (Pro Era) with school friends Capital Steez and Powers Pleasant.
He began sharing videos of himself rapping via YouTube, which caught the attention of producer Jonny Shipes – the president of the Cinematic Music Group.
His debut mixtape 1999 was released on June 12, 2012 and made waves for Joey in the hip-hop community.
