Joe Joyce vows to KO Joseph Parker to punish heavyweight opponent for trying to evade world championship decider

JOE JOYCE has vowed to punish Joseph Parker for trying to duck out of the final World Cup hurdle.

On April 23, the heavyweight pair shook hands in front of 94,000 Wembley fans as Tyson Fury defeated Dillian Whyte in a BT Sport clash.

But the 30-year-old Kiwi then ducked out of the deal to sign with advertising rivals BOXXER and Sky Sports.

With Parker’s new backers not offering him a worthwhile opponent, he is now being sent back across enemy lines to take on the 36-year-old Juggernaut in Manchester on September 24.

WBO No. 1 contender Joyce roared, “This fight has been a long time coming.

“Parker realized he had nowhere else to go and ultimately had to take on this fight.

“It’s No. 1 vs. No. 2. The winner goes on to fight for the world title.

“It’s going to be a smashing fight and you’ll see why he tried so hard to avoid me.”

Former WBO champion Parker hasn’t really impressed since losing to Anthony Joshua in 2018.

But after back-to-back victories over Derek Chisora, he believes Tyson Fury’s assistant coach Andy Lee is finally getting the best of him.

He said: “On Saturday 24 September the fans in Manchester will see the best of me.

“And Joe Joyce will see exactly why I’ll be world heavyweight champion again.

“I’m working hard with my coach Andy Lee, everything is going smoothly and I feel really great.

“I’ve been patiently waiting for this battle to begin, and I can now tell you that the Juggernaut’s journey ends right here.

“He has nowhere to run.”
